How to put your US$50 to good use

Posted by rom on February 8, 2006

Microsoft’s US$50 per year OneCare subscription was announced yesterday. You subscribe to make your computers (up to 3) free from viruses, worms, spyware and other malicious applications. Now, consider the alternative…

  1. Ubuntu Linux – free and chances of getting viruses, worms, etc. – very low
  2. ClamAV – free. just for your peace of mind
  3. Firefox – free.
  4. Practising safe hex. free.

Use your US$50 per year and support an Open Source project. 🙂

No, it is not my birthday today. Was blog-surfing and I just found out that it is Richelle‘s birthday 30 days ago. Her blog led me to check what my birthday (which was Pope John Paul II’s birthday, too) means…

Your Birthdate: May 18
You are a cohesive force – able to bring many people together for a common cause.
You tend to excel in work situations, but you also facilitate a lot of social gatherings too.
Beyond being a good leader, you are good at inspiring others.
You also keep your powerful emotions in check – you know when to emote and when to repress.

Your strength: Emotional maturity beyond your years

Your weakness: Wearing yourself down with too many responsibilities

Your power color: Crimson red

Your power symbol: Snowflake

Your power month: September

Questions, questions, questions…

Posted by rom on January 18, 2006

I did not think that it will be this difficult to be one of the examiners for a regional certification exam. I am required to produce questions for Friday and I am almost done – just one more question to go. The thing is, it needs some coding so I am dusting my Java cap again and writing some code…

I have forgotten how it feels like to debug code again. Now that I am writing some code, the natural high that programmers and developers get is really addicting. I am doing it slowly for I may get addicted again and starting coding like there is no tomorrow. It won’t be easy with kids around but hey, it definitely is worth a try. 🙂

Save the Rainforest

If you are kind enough to care about the future of our planet, save a part of the rainforest by clicking a certain button. A click a day saves 11.4 square feet of endangered rainforest.

Happy GNU year!

Posted by rom on January 1, 2006

2005 brought a lot of surprises for me – a whole lot of blessings from Him up there. Frankly, I do not know how to thank Him but to simply say, “Thank you, Lord! For all the blessings you have give me and my family. For keeping us away from harm and for the gift of health. Thank you, Mama Mary – for always being there for us, in joy and in pain. Thank you, Holy Spirit – for guiding us and ensuring that we always do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. Thank you!”

I continue and pray, “Lord, make 2006 better than 2005 – keep us healthy and safe always. Thank you!”
