2006 Technology of the Year

Posted by rom on January 3, 2006

Infoworld released its 2006 Technology of the Year list. Guess what? Yeah, more products from Apple.

  • Best Workstation: Apple Power Mac G5 Quad
  • Best Server OS: Apple Mac OS X Server v.10.4 Tiger
  • Best Client OS: Apple Mac OS X v. 10.4 Tiger

Am not surprised that Visual Studio 2005 got the best IDE award but it only works on Windows and is primed for Windows app development as well. 😦 I agree that it is the best development tool out there but I wish that you can use it on Linux and Mac and also allows you to develop on Java, PHP, Perl, etc. πŸ˜› Personally, Netbeans and Eclipse works for me.
MS SQL Server 2005 as the Best Enterprise Database came as a surprise for me. Where are the other open source databases? Why weren’t they even evaluated? Hmmm…

So, do you agree with Infoworld? πŸ˜€
