Not the first time

Posted by rom on July 30, 2005

Yes, this is not the first time that inq7.net correspondents for their InfoTech section published incorrect information. The UP Computer Center is different from the UP Computer Science department! It is just simple but the thing is, I personally know the writer, Alex, and I am sure that he knows that I head the Computer Center but my good friend, Dr. Festin, heads the Computer Science – there might have been a lapse in judgment. To add to it, the information about the new building housing only the Computer Science is not true! The first two floors will house the College of Engineering Computer Science and EEE Library Collections. The upper two floors will house the Computer Science!

Anyway, not too long ago, Inq7.net also quoted me out of context and also they have published a report about one of UP Diliman‘s research unit getting around 100 million pesos in grant from the Department of Science and Technology but in reality, it was 10 million. Shesh!

I hope that the Infotech editor will have his/her writers verify their stories first.

Good-bye sexy!

Posted by rom on July 28, 2005

Well, my Motorola Razr V3 found a new master. Yes, unfortunately a clam-shell phone is not for me but did love its features and beauty! 🙂

Anyway, am phone-less now except for this digital camera that comes with a phone keypad.

Mac Update: New iBooks and Mac Mini

Posted by rom on July 27, 2005

It is a good thing that I did not get Mac Mini yet. This new model seems to offer the best bargain for a Mac. I am hoping that local pricing will be more competitive.

As for the iBook, should I or shouldn’t I “trade-up” my wife’s 1.33Ghz 12″ powerbook with the new 1.42Ghz iBook? Hmmm…

One of the most useless widgets

Posted by rom on July 26, 2005

At least for Unix junkies like me who cannot live without the command-line interface (CLI), the WidgetTerm widget provides you with instant access to the Terminal.app, or shell for the geeks.

What makes it even better is that it is open source! Beat that!

V for Vendettta

Posted by rom on July 24, 2005

All the while I was hoping for a remake of the sci-fi TV series, V. However, with the release of the V for Vendetta move trailer last Friday, I found out that this is totally different.

Oh well, better luck next time.

ARGH!

Posted by rom on July 22, 2005

Pisses me off to see criminals roaming the streets, in this case the mall, without fear of being prosecuted! This is just one of those people selling software illegally. I just wish that those who are supposed to enforce the law will do their job. Heck, I am sure that some of them even buy from these vendors!

You better watch out!

Posted by rom on July 22, 2005

I got to read a friend’slament a few minutes ago. If it were to happen to me, I’ll probably make a bigger deal out of it and do more – like, perhaps, publishing it or something. Heck, even complain to DTI about how this company is doing business.

Anyway, to add to this – there is another reseller that is encouraging piracy by providing clients with free copies of software saying that they are “extending” their licenses to them. This is something that I am passionately against! I am having second thoughts now on transacting with this reseller. I will check out another reseller and see if I can get a pirated software from them. Oh well…
